ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year 2018 nominee Harry

Harry, 10, ACT

School: Wanniassa Hills Primary School

Coach: Avi

Club: Erindale, Wanniassa

Where do you play ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and what stage do you currently play?

I play at Erindale, Wanniassa in Canberra. I am in the Green stage.

What do you like about playing tennis?

I love competing against other people. I love hitting the ball and running around the court. I love trying to move really fast from one point to another and smashing the ball across the court. I love being outside and that I can play with my family.

What is your favourite shot and why?

A forehand because I love to feel the power behind me when I hit the ball.

Who do you like playing tennis with?

My grandpa because he was a really good tennis player when he was young.

Do you have a favourite tennis player?

Nick Kyrgios – I like him because he is from Canberra like me!

Do you have any tennis goals?

To play in a big tournament and win.

What is your favourite tennis memory?

On holidays we went to a caravan park and they had a tennis court – this was when I realised I loved tennis. I went down to reception and asked to book the court without my parents knowing. The lady said we could have the court now if we wanted and gave me four racquets. I walked back up to our caravan and told my family we were going to play a game of tennis. I have loved it since then!

How does it feel to be nominated for the ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year award?

When my mum told me I was nominated it was the happiest day of my life. I thought I had won the lottery or something. I couldn’t believe it as I have never won or been nominated for anything before so I am just happy that it has happened and that it is for tennis!

What are you looking forward to when you visit the Australian Open?

There is so many things I am looking forward to – seeing the stadiums where the real tennis players play, being amongst all of the excitement of the Australian Open, watching my first real tennis match, maybe seeing some of my favourite tennis players, going to Melbourne because I have never been – my list goes on and on!
